Who knew that a night at a Super Bowl party would turn into adventures of love, kids and a blog!!!

After several months of sharing our stories on social media, someone suggested that I write a blog about the crazy adventures of my family life. Laughing out loud, the thought was quickly buried along with a ton of other wonderful ideas folks expected me to do. However, when Covid-19 hit, I had nothing better to do than to laugh at the daily shenanigans in my household and start jotting down a few notes here and there. And now here I am inviting you to join this rollercoaster ride called my life!!! There would be no blog without telling you how I got here. That day happened when I met my wife, Sherrise.

A friend invited me to her Super Bowl party where she assured me that I would meet some single women. I was back on the dating market and had been in hibernation. I reintroduced myself to the lesbian scene with a 40 pound lighter, new and improved, both physically and emotionally, June. When I arrived, after driving two hours in monsoon-like conditions, my friends welcomed the thinner, happier June. I needed a much needed drink and some decent eye-candy to bring down my lingering road rage from sitting in traffic and dealing with multiple detours.

Behind Door Number One

“Okay, this party is cute and all but where are the single women? Everyone here is coupled up.”

After a couple of cranberry and vodkas, I noticed that the Eagles were winning. I summoned my bestie to the next room complaining, "Okay, this party is cute and all but were are the single women? Everyone here is coupled up." She told me not to worry that the single folks are always late because they need to make an entrance. I had no clue that she would be describing the antics of my soon-to-be other half.

After our conversation, my friend and I left the room and there she was behind door. Her petite, 5'3" stature fit neatly in the corner between the door and the wall. Her bubbly personality exuded as she said, "Hi, my name is Sherrise!"

What Had Happened Was

Sherrise quickly made me aware that she remembered me from the lesbian BLISS parties that I used to co-host in Newark, New Jersey. I acted as if I vaguely remembered her but I knew exactly who she was. You can't play all your good cards on the first hand. Sherrise ran down her 30 second "I'm a great catch" elevator speech and at the end, she emphasized that she was VERY single. After acknowledging my own availability, I didn't want to seem too attached, so I moved around the party after our brief introduction. But she managed to keep up with my every diversion, finally wore me down and even surprised me with a victory kiss.

After the Eagles won and the party patrons began to leave, Sherrise did everything she could to convince me to go home with her for a nightcap, trying to entice me to do so because she only lived 10 minutes away from the event. However, I knew better and didn't want to be a 50 year old booty call. Instead, I gave her my phone number, marked my territory with a juicy kiss, jumped in my car and headed back up I-95 to North Jersey.

“Let's post on social media and tell everyone we got married this weekend. Let's see whose friends will respond first!”

VERY Fast Forward

After our first date, we were inseparable. We were out and about every single day. I had no idea how much those endorphins were working. Despite our efforts to happily endure the last of the winter months in New Jersey, I told Sherrise that I needed some sunshine in my life. We booked a trip to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and were on a plane by the weekend.

Once we arrived, we knew that we were in our element. We frolicked along the shore, dined at the best restaurants, smoked the best Cuban cigars and jumped on a boat or two for some ocean excursions. I knew I was falling in love and wanted to test the waters. While basking in the sun after one too many cocktails, I said, "Let's post on social media and tell everyone we got married this weekend. Let's see whose friends will respond first." We posted and let the gossip chain handle the rest.

Her friends responded first with the polite, "WTF?" while my peeps commented, "we'll get the T when you get home." Although we were joking, we knew where we wanted to be and that was together!!!

Twenty-eight days from our first encounter, we were engaged. Within six months, we bought a house and adopted a dog. The following year, had the wedding of our dreams in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Once we returned, we opened our home to foster pregnant teens and LGBTQ adolescents.

I've posted this quote as my daily mantra, "Believe you deserve it and the universe will serve it!" I believed it! I received it and I was ready!!! This was the beginning of the rest of my life!

Welcome to My Life with Her, 3 Kids and A Dog!!!
